Learn the art of live concert sound – hands-on training with industry-leading systems and experts.

An intensive, experiential and immersive short course. Gain professional skills in the deployment, calibration and operation of concert sound systems.

Throughout this course, you’ll gain hands on experience with a large-scale line array concert sound system made by Cohesion. Cohesion is from the product division of Clair Global companies and is found on most major concert tours.

Course content

In the course, you will: 

  • Design, assemble, rig and optimize the system using state of the art DiGiCo consoles
  • Learn about wave propagation to mechanically and electrically articulate best sound 
  • Calibrate and operate the system 
  • Deploy sub-base configurations, applying knowledge of steered and cardioid science gained on the course

Course outcomes

By the end of this intensive short course, you’ll have developed the technical confidence and practical experience needed to work with professional concert sound systems in real-world environments. 

You’ll walk away with a stronger understanding of system design and deployment, enhanced mixing and calibration skills, and deeper insight into the physics of sound in live performance settings. Whether you’re aiming to expand your freelance portfolio or step into larger-scale live productions, this course will give you the tools and industry context to take that next step.

Upon successfully completing the course, you’ll gain a microcredential and certificate.

Our Concert Sound Systems short course is delivered on campus at Rock Lititz in ALT’s industry-standard Studio 4. Train with leading industry professionals in custom-built facilities designed specifically for live events.

Meet your tutors

Dave Lester, Director of Education & Safety at Clair Global

Dave has been in the live event industry as an audio engineer for 30+ years, over 22 of which have been with ShowCo and Clair Global. He has spent many years as a System Engineer/Audio Engineer controlling concert sound systems. He has been the FOH mixer for artists such as PINK, John Fogerty, Wall Flowers, Blondie to mention a few. He has also been the monitor engineer for artists such as Alanis Morissette, Boston, Judas Priest, White Zombie and many others. He has spent the last 20+ years as the Director of Education and Safety at Clair Global.

Grant funding

Workforce LIVE is excited to announce a limited number of $750 grants available for use by individuals participating in an Academy of Live Technology short course on the Rock Lititz campus.

Grants are open to juniors or seniors enrolled in existing live event-related college programs or working live event professionals, with less than 5 years of experience.

Applications must be fully completed and submitted by the deadline on the application. No late applications will be accepted. Applications are only active for the dates indicated on the application.
