For the fifth consecutive year, Live Visual Design & Production students were invited to design and install a light sculpture for the Lightwaves Festival at Salford’s MediaCity in 2025.
The brief was intentionally open, and six students rose to the challenge by creating Triskelion - an ambitious interactive artwork completed from concept to installation in just eight weeks. The project presented significant technical and logistical hurdles, offering invaluable real-world learning experiences that go far beyond the studio.
Students had to contend with unpredictable factors such as rain, wind, and audience interaction - elements that simply can’t be replicated in a classroom.

The result was a striking three-sided interactive sculpture that shimmered beautifully beside the water. The lights on the sculpture react to sound. Over four nights, thousands of visitors engaged with the piece, making it a truly unforgettable showcase of creativity and resilience.
